The Gifted is the third studio album by rapper Wale..... 3rd Album!!!!! And killed it on The Billboard And hes only done like what 8 mixtapes since 2005. Most of the these upcoming rappers today are still working their 8th mixtape, 15th youtube video and still have not released an album. Whats going on here?
I'll tell you whats up. Upcoming rappers are hustling backwards. If your an upcoming rapper and your still releasing countless mixtapes with out an album and not making money than you need to rethink your music career.
Jayz released a historic campaign for his album MC/HG with countless commercials, youtube ads, and by slowly releasing tracklist, lyrics, album cover, ect. He made it hard to get.
Kanye West did something like an rebelious artist with the way he premiered his music and album cover.
And if by now you havent figured they are doing some good numbers with the licensing deals. The main reason behind this is that these artists are orignal. The greatest artists release original music and contribute something timeless to Hip Hop. Something that a lot of upcoming rappers are lacking. Upcoming rappers are following trends and have no idea how to hustle. You can hear it in their music. They state that their influences are Biggie, Pac, JayZ, Nas.....but when you listen to them it sounds like their influences are Ace Hood, Drake, TPain and other mediocre artists....
