CUBA LIBRE DC (REVIEW)......More like CUBA CONTROLADO

This past weekend I had a few things to celebrate. My 1st portfolio show as a graphic designer, which means a lot because I have spent endless, sleepless nights preparing for it. The other thing I wanted to celebrate was a going away party for my buddy Ru-Bwoy and his wife who are moving to the west coast.

Ru sent me an invite to Cuba Libre DC, I had hear of the place before through some club promoters throwing events there. I did some further review and found out that there are more than one Cuba Libres. It turns out I been to the one in Atlantic City before a long time ago and had no idea it was associated to the one in DC. I checked their website out to get more info on the place. They have a restaurant and a pricey menu (at least $25 a plate), which is expected if you are going to be serving good Cuban food. Ru told me that we have to send our names to get on the guest list. (I personally hate dealing with guest list and sending my name, feel like I'm signing up for the hunger games...lol)

We arrive around 11p (be there by 12 for guestlist) There is a long line about 15 people ahead of us. I was not expecting this, I thought it was corny because If its free before 12, shouldnt they just let people in but the The real reason they create lines is so that they look important...lol...The girl with her clip board was being slow, they didnt even have the names in alphabetical order and you would think these people to use Ipads by now for this type of stuff.

So I walk in and the first thing I noticed was the Disney like "Decor" and high ceilings which is probably why locals have talked about this place since they are suckers for this. I want to do is try a mojito. When ever I go to a Cuban restaurant I gotta order this. So far the best one in the DC area is at Havanna Village and I wanted to see if they can match it. The drink appeared to look good only thing missing was the sugar cane, the drink by the way was $10. I left a $2 tip as courtesy cause I know these drinks are not fun to make. I took one sip and was like "what is this sugar water?" I went to the bartender and asked him if he could add more rum. He was like you get what you get in a rude attitude. I looked to see if I could get my tip back he had already picked it up. I felt like saying I want my money back but i did not want to create a scene. Instead Im going to write about it and spread the news about my disappointment.

I try to enjoy my drink and find out why people are gathered around the dance floor. It turns out they were watching some salsa dancers dress who were dressed with sparkling suits kind of like a trapeeze group in a circus act. I was expecting them to do something out of this world..NADA..I guess people there have no idea how to dance salsa or were scarred to dance. As the night continued I decided I was going to stick to beers..(smh)

The music sucked ass they played the most commercial Latin music you can think of everything from Elvis Crespo Suavemente to Oscar Deleon Lloraras to even LMFAO Party ROCK...smh..The restaurant was still open and the funny moment of the night was an elderly white couple trying to maneuver out of the club which was dominated by hispanics.

The next day I get on twitter and i even let them know about this. They responded by saying "unfornate that you didnt enjoy it. but fortunately dc has dozens of other spots that may cater more to interests"....WOW what kind of customer service is that?????? I started to think am I the only one that has had a bad experience there. I googled the reviews and turns out I'm not. I didn't even try the food but from the reviews thank god I didn't. From the reviews on the place, they actually really do suck. Even my friends from facebook had something to say

@Rubia Guevara Had the same experience. Horrible! And I paid 40 bucks for 2 long islands that tasted like shit.

@Ab Fantazma Garcia DJ sucks/ the Mojitos sucks..the place is bama..

@John Llako Liveris And the wait in line is ridiculous I came to the conclusion that based on the location more than likely they are run by the Washington controlled polictical image of Castro..they even have it in a tourist spot..so that tourist leave with that feeling.
